Tenchi Muyo GXP Box Set Review
GXP is not about Tenchi Misaki. Instead it focuses on Seina, a teenage boy and friend of Tenchi's who accidently becomes involved with the Galaxy Police. Girls flock to him, he remains awkward... basically it's keeps with the same harem aspect as Tenchi but expands upon it in a different setting and story. Throw in a few cameos from the original Tenchi gang and Seina's very own Space Pirate Ryoko to contend with and you have yourself an entertaining, comedic show that suppliments the Tenchi universe while standing alone as a series. I decided to rewatch the original Tenchi Muyo! OVA before moving on to GXP and then to Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-oh-ki. For those of you who plan to watch Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-oh-ki I suggest watching this as it expands upon Ryo-oh-ki's supporting cast more. If you are a Tenchi fan this is a must buy.
However, the reason I deduct one star from the review is because of the shoddy packaging. As another reviewer has already stated the entire boxset is made out of PAPER. No plastic is evident whatsoever. Due to this my GXP boxset was crushed in transit despite being loaded with protective air bags. Though the boxset itself is interesting and not like any boxset layout I've seen before there is a reason for it. I like to think of it as a pop up book gone wrong that only inhibits one from easily turning the "pages" to get to the next disc. Also, out of the 8 discs my fourth disc was heavily scratched. I immediately stuck it in my PS3 and played around with it and it seems to work fine but it does look like it's been through heck though I had just opened it from it's original packaging wrap.
Ultimately, I am happy with the series and with the price I paid for it (.00). If I had paid more I would have been more upset about the crushed boxset and the scratched disc but since the disc is playable and the boxset still ... somewhat holding my discs in it's odd paper-y little way I accept it and suggest that you give it a try. Just don't expect it to be in prestine condition, even if it's new.

Tenchi Muyo GXP Box Set Specifications
Seina Yamada, the hero of the adventure-farce Tenchi Muyo GXP (2002), is a one-man destruction derby. When he walks by, cell phones disconnect and machinery breaks down. A succession of misunderstandings sends Seina to the Galaxy Police Academy, where Mihoshi and Kiyoni trained in the Tenchi adventures. Seina says he knows Tenchi Masaki and visits the planet Jurai, but none of the main characters from the original continuity appear. Nor do the filmmakers recapture the mixture of romantic comedy, slapstick high jinks, and sci-fi adventure that make Tenchi so popular. GXP is an unremarkable fan-service comedy that's closer in tone to Steel Angel Kurumi than Tenchi Universe. Voluptuous women chase 15-year-old Seina, although what they see in him isn't clear. Resident babes Kiriko, Amane, and Erma--who are also his teachers--pursue him, leading to a spate of cleavage shots, panty shots, bath scenes, massages, come-ons, and nose bleeds. Like the original Tenchi, Seina turns out to be a long-lost Prince of Jurai: He summons a variation on the magical Lighthawk Wings while piloting a billion-year-old mecha he finds on the planet Wau. Tenchi Muyo GXP will appeal to devotees of fan-service jiggle comedies, but viewers expecting a continuation of the long-running Tenchi franchise will be disappointed. (Rated TV PG: risqué and toilet humor, nudity, alcohol use, comic violence) --Charles Solomon

A Romantic Comedy Sci-Fi Series Worth Getting - Rich - CA
The series was a lot more entertaining than a lot of the reviews I've seen previously about it would give, the series seems a mix of Love Hina and The irresponsible Captain Tylor with a lot more hilarity and well endowed girls than the aforementioned series. The main character who has the worse luck any one can believe but seems to have a unique knack of catching the eyes of girls now seems to have caught the notice of a group of beautiful inter-planetary police woman for what purpose is anyone's guess but with this series we pretty much know what. The series does come in eight dvds and is put into a hard paper dvd case booklet but in all it wasn't that bad a packaging the case is pretty sturdy in my dvds were nicely held in place with no damages to them, also some have complained about the subtitles to the series but after I and a few friends looked at the series we saw the subtitles were all right with hardly any mistakes put into them as one reviewer has said. All I can say is that if you buy online from Ebay or from some other unknown or iffy seller you're not sure about or has no legalized proof that they're not selling a bootleg version there's a chance you'll get a bootleg version with wrong or crappy subtitles. The animation is pretty good with great clarity from the set no distortions or lines to complain about and the soundtrack fits the series perfectly, the voice cast for the Japanese crew did splendidly and the English voice cast were very good as well and the bonus extras while not the greatest aren't to bad either. So for anime fans of harem animes, sci-fi animes, or comedy animes here's a pretty decent set to try out for your anime collection library....
English wasn't even their 5th language - Wendy j - Tehachapi, CA
Ok, I'm sure this is a wonderful series like others have mentioned, but the atrocities in the English Subtitles were truly past laughable. I have enough other anime translations both good and bad that I was able to figure out what it was supposed to be, but I could barely get through episode one.
And yes it is in the Tenchi universe but only through association that I have notice, so I recommend passing on it.
Christmas gift - N. A. Mimbs - Dublin, GA, USA
I bought this for my son for Christmas. He was quite pleased with it, he had only asked for the 1st two videos from a different site. He told me they came in without any scratches. He really enjoyed it.
I was pleased it came in plenty of time for Christmas and was in good condition.
