Treasury of 25 Storybook Classics: Dinosaurs, Trucks, Monsters and More! (Scholastic Storybook Treasures) Specifications
Scholastic Storybook Treasures are award-winning adaptations of some of the best-loved children's books of all time. Each piece faithfully preserves the words and artwork of the original stories using animation, camera movement, and sometimes live action to bring the words on the page to life on the screen. The Dinosaurs, Trucks, Monsters and More! compilation features four DVDs with stories about things that fascinate children: dinosaurs, trucks, food, toys, and animals. The How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? disc follows some unruly dinosaurs as they get ready for bed, learn about manners, and spend a day at home sick in bed. Danny and the Dinosaur explores what might happen if a dinosaur came to life for a day, Stanley and the Dinosaurs features a clever live-action, animatronic dinosaur who uses his head to solve problems, Dinosaur Bones is essentially a jazz recitation of dinosaur facts, and T is for Terrible showcases a sensitive T-Rex who ponders his bad reputation. Trucks and other wheeled vehicles prove just how important they are to society in the second disc which includes I Stink, Trashy Town, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle. Friendship takes on some strange new forms in Arnie the Doughnut and The Beast of Monsieur Racine. In the third disc, imagination runs wild with fantastical creatures, everyday people, and strange mythical talents. Laugh along with the silly antics of Pete's a Pizza, take a fantastical journey to earth with the Moon Man, imagine what you can create with Max's Words, and ponder the remarkable talents of The Five Chinese Brothers. Other stories include The Great White Man-Eating Shark, The Island of Skog, and What's Under My Bed?. The final disc presents Beverly Cleary's The Mouse and the Motorcycle, a 41-minute live action, animatronic film from 1986 in which a young boy named Keith discovers and befriends a talking mouse who ends up riding his toy motorcycle and providing Keith with much-needed medication. The live-action Wee Gillis, from 1938, chronicles a boy's struggle to decide between the highland and lowland life in Scotland, highlighting his realization that he's destined to combine aspects of both ways of life. Each story is expertly narrated, often by celebrities like Chevy Chase or Anthony Edwards, most offer read-along options, and there are also three bonus Spanish versions of How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, Danny and the Dinosaur, and Moon Man. For a multisensory experience, find a copy of the books and help your child follow along as she watches--it's doubly enjoyable that way and it might just inspire a lifelong love of reading.
