What's New Scooby-Doo, Vol. 7 - Ghosts on the Go Review




In this fun and mysterious volume, Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang go to Italy, Scotland, Greece, and France to solve four different and original enigmatic mysteries! Like all of the previous "What's New Scooby-Doo?" episodes, they are harder to solve cases, than most of the ones featured in the old Scooby-Doo television series. I enjoyed watching this DVD because it's clearly for all ages, literally. These episodes are not meant to be JUST for kids, because I would say that about 90% of the adults with the right mind also have fun trying to solve the mysteries. These episodes, in particular, are four of the best ones picked from the entire show. Scooby-Doo mysteries are also funny, and these ones are no exception. With a lot of red-herrings on their way, the cases aren't easy to solve! They actually make you think - that's what makes them good.

Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma must unmask a ZOMBIE GLADIATOR in Italy, as well as an enormous DRAGON in Scotland, and a CENTAUR on their trip to Greece! Let's not forget the flying GARGOYLE statue that comes to life in France!

The episodes and the grade I give them are as follow:
- Pompeii & Circumstance: A-
- Large Dragon at Large: A+
- It's Greek to Scooby-Doo: A+
- Ready to Scare: A

To make my point, this volume of the "What's New scooby-Doo?" series is a must have for any Scooby-Doo fan. If you like solving puzzles, try to crack these cses with 87 minutes of mysrery, laughter, and fun! Scooby-Doo is the best, and these episodes rock!!!




What's New Scooby-Doo, Vol. 7 - Ghosts on the Go Overview


In Ghosts On The Go, the gang crosses the Atlantic Ocean and takes on Europe! In Large Dragon at Large, the gang attends a Renaissance Faire, where a dragon interrupts their fun. While traveling in Greece, an ancient myth apparently comes to life because of a medallion Shaggy wears in It's All Greek to Scooby. In Pompeii and Circumstance, the gang's Italian vacation is interrupted by misdeeds in teh ancient city of Pompeii, leading to an ominous visit into the mouth of th no so dormant Vesuvius. And finally, the gang goes to Paris to see Daphne's cousin become a model, but only to discover she's been abducted by a giant gargoyle in Ready To Scare.

The New Scooby and Gang! - Alex Honda - Los Angeles, CA USA
This is a great incarnation of Scooby Doo and the Mystery, Inc. gang. Each episode is sharp, colorful, and well written.

But what makes this collection of episodes, as with the other dvd collections of the "What's New Scooby-Doo" series, are the voices.

Grey Delisle, Mindy Cohn, and Frank Welker sound amazingly similar to the original voices of Daphne, Velma, and Fred (respectively) in the "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" series. And of course, the inimitable voice of Casey Kasem recast as Shaggy round out this show, so that even though it's new, it seems familar.

Why this casting choice wasn't made for some of the newer feature length Scooby movies like "Scooby and The Witch's Ghost," I'll never understand.

The Smurfs Season 2, Vol. 2: Smurfy Tales Review



Here's a brand-new DVD starring your favorite blue sprites that live in harmony in a secluded village in the forest. It's 5 more episodes of the Smurfs on DVD for the first time. The tiny denizens will encounter new friends, familiar foes, and more new adventures from the second season such as "The Last Laugh", "A-maze-ing Smurfs" and "The Good, the Bad, and the Smurfy".

Like the first DVD "True Blue Friends", this DVD has a bonus feature consisting of an interactive Smurf Village with character bios and hidden facts that you probably have never heard about !

So whether it's keeping the peace within and beyond the Smurf village or encountering the wicked wizard Gargamel, these little guys pull through when they work together. Surely another DVD will be out soon, but it'd be nicer if the next one had, say, more than 5 episodes like 10 on one disc if possible. But keep your eyes open nonetheless.




The Smurfs Season 2, Vol. 2: Smurfy Tales Overview


Tiny, blue, international celebrities the Smurfs--all 101 of them--dwell joyfully together in a medieval forest village. Only three apples tall, they live in mushroom houses and take their morning showers with dewdrops. Papa Smurf, wise beyond his 543 years, gently rules a raucous clan that includes Brainy, Jokey, Clumsy, Vanity, Grouch and that luscious femme fatale, Smurfette. But Gargamel, the local wicked wizard, despises the Smurf's happiness. With his fiendish cat, Azrael, Gargamel schemes to capture the Smurfs. Luckily, the Smurf village cannot be found unless a Smurf leads the way, and the Smurfs are as resourceful as they are lovable.

I enjoyed it but I do wish that the ones who are making the smurfs d.v.d.s would put more than 5 cartoons on a disk. In volume 1 and volume 2 they had at least 15 episodes for each one and now its down to 5. Other than that, I like them and hope they keep them coming. The d.v.d. itself was in good condition.

Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood Review



Scooby-Doo is one of my favourite cartoon characters, but I can't say the same about his cartoons. This feature-length animated film breaks that mould. It's a treat both visually and theme-wise. Scooby already is a big star thanks to his Saturday morning cartoon show, which is loved near and far. Yet he harbours a dream of becoming a big primetime star in Hollywood. With Shaggy as his manager, Scooby steps into show business and tries to impress a producer with some hilarious preview clips showing Scooby's versatility. Yet is fame and fortune all that it's cracked up to be? Perhaps people need Scooby-Doo more than he needs Hollywood?

As is the case with animated features, the animation is allowed to go further here. The movie's highlights are the preview clips Scooby and Shaggy present to the producer, including parodies of the likes of Charlie's Angels, Love Boat and Saturday Night Fever (with the catchy song "Gorgeous Scooby-Doo"). My favourite is the last of these, where Scooby dances in an unashamed scene of disco lights that quickly morph into everything from bubbles to dog dishes. All the while, Scooby Doo becomes alive like he rarely does on the cartoon. More touching scenes arise when his friends look through his baby photo book and reminisce about his good old days.

I've been waiting to see something like this ever since I first saw Scooby-Doo. An animated treat of the character a generation fell in love with, and me, that explores his versatility. And for the price, a fan has no excuse to pass it up. Great find.

Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood Specifications


The only mystery here is whether Scoob will leave the Mystery Machine gang to go solo. Featuring a laugh track, some musical numbers (!), and the Great Dane hanging with such '70s icons as Charlie's Angels and a disco queen in Qiana, the framing for this 49-minute show is framed as a screen test for a show- biz heavyweight. Shaggy plays agent while his canine sidekick gets to play cowboy for a face-off at high noon and don a leather jacket to wow the ladies as a canine Fonz in "Scooby Days." This leaves Fred, Daphne, and Velma with frighteningly little to do. Originally a television special in 1979, this third--or so-- incarnation of Scooby-Doo and friends features the original series' voices (Casey Kasem, etc.), except for Velma (here voiced by Pat Stevens). Young Scooby fans (3 and up) will enjoy the humor, but Scooby purists will want to stick with the mysteries. --Kimberly Heinrichs

I liked it because I like all Scooby but it is not typical of the Scooby theme. No mystery to solve. Really is about Scooby trying to start a movie career in Hollywood. Kind of stupid theme but cute.

In order to watch this, one must be strapped to a chair with eyes taped open. It's that bad. I'm a fan of Scooby, but this was easily the worst of the bunch I've seen. The story is plodding, the jokes aren't funny, I spent most of the time looking at the clock waiting for it to be over, and the nicest thing I can say about it is that it ended. It's essentially all about how Scooby doesn't fit well in any other Hollywood role but that of crime-fighter with the gang. If you are looking for a good Scooby movie to enjoy, avoid this one and The Reluctant Werewolf. Try Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island; it's a bit scarier than the average Scooby, but the kids love it and you won't need to be duct taped to your recliner to watch it.
